Joe Cote, a Massachusetts high school teacher, has seen his Reddit short story 'I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl,' about a drifter impersonating a missing girl to rob a family, picked up by Warner Bros for a feature film adaptation. The film will star and be produced by actress Sydney Sweeney through her production company Fifty-Fifty Films, with an Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth adapting the screenplay. Numerous production heavyweights, including producers from Underground and Vertigo, are attached to the film, though a director has yet to be named. Sweeney continues to expand her role in the industry, having produced and starred in various projects, further cementing her status as a prolific figure in Hollywood. Cote will serve as an executive producer, with the film expected to bring 'Gone Girl-worthy' twists to the screen.
