Helicopter Crash off Port Harcourt Claims Three Lives

A Sikorsky SK76 helicopter operated by East Wind Aviation crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near Bonny Finima, Port Harcourt, on October 24, 2024, while en route from the Port Harcourt Military Base to the NUIMANTAN oil rig. The accident involved eight people, with three bodies recovered so far and five passengers still missing. The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development confirmed the incident, and search and rescue operations are ongoing, supported by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau and other agencies. Unfortunately, no Emergency Locator Transmitter signal was received, prompting manual efforts to locate the crash site. The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, expressed condolences to the families affected and emphasized the commitment to providing necessary support during this difficult time. Rescue teams are deploying military and low-flying aircraft to assist in the search for survivors.
