Man Charged Attempted Murder After Borehamwood Explosive Found

Robert Kovacs, 38, of Edgware, has been charged with attempted murder and explosive-related offences after a suspicious object was found beneath a vehicle on Cowley Hill in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, leading to the evacuation of around 50 homes and a 100-metre cordon. Specialists from an army bomb squad conducted controlled explosions to safely remove the device, and Kovacs was remanded in custody following a court appearance. A 38-year-old woman from Borehamwood was also arrested but has since been released on bail with strict conditions. Authorities have emphasized that this is an isolated incident involving parties known to one of the suspects, with no wider threat to the public. Detective Inspector Caeva Taylor has appealed to the public for any information related to suspicious activity in the area between August 15 and 16 to assist ongoing investigations. Residents described the evacuation as sudden and disruptive, with vulnerable individuals affected and a temporary evacuation center established.
