Former Liverpool Assistant Pep Lijnders Expected to Join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City

Manchester City is set to undergo a significant backroom coaching reshuffle ahead of the 2025-26 season, with former Liverpool assistant Pepijn Lijnders expected to join Pep Guardiola's staff. Lijnders, who spent nearly a decade alongside Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool and briefly managed Red Bull Salzburg, is returning to an assistant role despite previously stating he would only work under Klopp. This move follows the departure of long-time assistants Juanma Lillo, Íñigo Domínguez, and Carlos Vicens, who left City for various reasons including contract expirations and new managerial roles. Additionally, former player and current youth coach Kolo Touré is also being considered for promotion to the first-team coaching staff. Guardiola's reshuffle aims to inject fresh ideas after a trophyless season, with City finishing third in the Premier League and losing the FA Cup final.
