Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope have discovered a new class of small, red, and compact galaxies, called the Little Red Dots, which challenge current astrophysical understanding due to their mimicry of other celestial objects. Meanwhile, another international team has successfully imaged the circumgalactic medium, a vast halo of gas surrounding galaxies, extending their perceived boundaries much further into space. This discovery suggests that the gas halos of the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies are already overlapping, impacting our understanding of galactic evolution and interaction. The circumgalactic medium, making up around 70% of a galaxy's mass, plays a crucial role in cycling gas between galaxies and has only recently been observed in such detail.
