Netflix Orders 'Age of Innocence' Limited Series
Netflix is developing a limited-series adaptation of Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence, ordered in April and produced by Chernin Entertainment, with Emma Frost as showrunner and writer. Shannon Murphy is attached to direct the first three episodes, and the show is prepping for a fall start of production in Europe. The principal cast includes Camila Morrone as Ellen Olenska, Kristine Froseth as May Welland, Ben Radcliffe as Newland Archer and Margot Martindale as Mrs. Manson‑Mingott. Fiona Glascott (Augusta Welland), Belinda Bromilow (Adeline Archer) and Emma Shipp (Janey Archer) are series regulars. A 14-member supporting cast features Hayley Mills, Will Tudor, John Light, Steven Pacey, Kel Matsena, Lucia Balordi, Elly Roberts, Jack Cutmore‑Scott, Anna Madeley, Michael Cochrane and Ryan Morgan. Netflix bills the series as a “fresh take” faithful to Wharton’s novel that explores the 1870s New York love triangle and themes of freedom, duty, identity, love and lust for a new generation.
