European Commission, Member States Launch Energy Union Task Force to Coordinate EU Energy Policy
The European Commission and the Polish Presidency of the Council have established the Energy Union Task Force to enhance cooperation and coordination on critical energy policy issues across Europe. This informal group, comprising high-level representatives from the Commission and member states, aims to accelerate interconnectivity, optimize energy infrastructure use, and improve coordination of grid and energy system planning among member states, with regular reporting to EU institutions. The task force supports the Action Plan for Affordable Energy by addressing challenges to developing a genuine Energy Union and will focus on priority areas like renewables, energy efficiency, resilient infrastructure, and safeguarding projects of common interest, especially in South-Eastern Europe. It also aims to tackle energy price disparities between European regions to maintain market cohesion and competitiveness. Complementing these efforts, Egypt is deepening cooperation with the European Investment Bank and the EU on renewable energy expansion, grid reinforcement, and energy storage, emphasizing public-private partnerships and investment incentives to promote clean energy and sustainable development. The first meetings of the task force are scheduled for late June and early September to discuss concrete policy items and strategic deliverables.
