Woman Charged with Murder in Newry Domestic Violence Case

Zivile Geringiene, a 50-year-old homeless woman, has appeared in court charged with the murder of her partner, 40-year-old Igors Gavrilovs, in Newry city centre. The offence is aggravated by domestic abuse, and Geringiene spoke through a Lithuanian interpreter, confirming she understood the charges. The incident occurred in Fisher Park, a small green space in Newry that had recently seen an increase in tents and concerns about untidiness and sanitation, but the tents were removed following the victim's death. Emergency services treated Gavrilovs at the scene before he was taken to hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Geringiene was remanded in custody with no bail application made, and the case is set to be mentioned again on July 23.
