Icelandic Volcano Erupts Near Grindavik

Passengers on flights over Iceland, including easyJet and Icelandair, witnessed a dramatic volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula, marking the seventh eruption this year. Footage captured from an easyJet flight showed the volcano's lava flows and smoke plumes, with one passenger describing the experience as life-changing. The eruption has caused the Blue Lagoon resort to close temporarily due to lava encroachment. Although 50 residents from the nearby town of Grindavik were evacuated, no injuries have been reported, and authorities indicate that air travel remains unaffected. The volcanic activity in this region resumed in 2021 after centuries of dormancy, with the latest eruption beginning on Wednesday night after seismic activity was detected. While the eruptions produce significant visual spectacles, they are not expected to disrupt air travel due to low ash emissions.
