Hong Kong Customs Seizes HK$39.4 Million Drugs, Counterfeits, Arrests 8 Across Multiple Locations
In Hong Kong, Customs authorities have intensified crackdowns on drug trafficking and counterfeit goods. On July 10, Customs seized approximately 4.1 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine worth HK$2.3 million, concealed in a passenger's carry-on luggage arriving from Kuala Lumpur; the 23-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with drug trafficking. Earlier, Customs uncovered 80 kilograms of ketamine valued at HK$36 million hidden inside a truck engine shipped from the Netherlands, leading to the arrest of two men involved. Additionally, targeted raids in Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Sheung Shui resulted in the confiscation of around 950 counterfeit items and 39,000 unlicensed controlled medicine tablets, valued at about HK$1.1 million, with five individuals arrested, including a company director. Customs emphasized the health risks posed by counterfeit medicinal products and urged the public to buy from reputable sources while warning against participation in drug trafficking. These enforcement actions underline Hong Kong Customs' commitment to combating transnational drug smuggling and the illicit trade of counterfeit goods through intelligence-driven operations and risk-based passenger screening.
