Duke University Hospital Floods Due to Pipe Burst

Duke University Hospital experienced significant flooding early Friday morning due to a burst chilled water pipe, which occurred around 11:40 p.m. Thursday. The flooding primarily impacted the emergency department and some ancillary areas, while inpatient areas remained unaffected. Hospital officials confirmed that all patients in the emergency room at the time received appropriate care and are currently redirecting incoming ambulance patients to nearby hospitals such as Duke Regional, UNC Hospitals, and WakeMed. Patients arriving on their own are being treated in unaffected wings of the hospital. Duke Health officials are working diligently to repair the damage and hope to resume normal operations soon, urging the public to seek emergency care at other facilities if possible. The extent of the damage and a timeline for repairs have not yet been disclosed.
