Man Sentenced for Choking Grandmother in Singapore

Jeremy Su Zhiwei, a 33-year-old man, has been sentenced to 12 weeks in jail after pleading guilty to choking his 84-year-old grandmother and pulling her hair when she refused to give him money. This incident occurred on November 22, 2024, and followed a history of violence that led to a personal protection order being issued in 2022. Su's aggressive behavior towards his grandmother included multiple physical altercations, which necessitated intervention from police and social services. During the recent altercation, after a heated argument about money, Su's actions caused visible injuries to his grandmother, including bruising and redness. The Deputy Public Prosecutor highlighted the repeated nature of Su's abuse, calling his behavior appalling. Following the incident, the grandmother contacted her son, leading to Su's arrest by the police.
