The United States, supported by Saudi Arabia and Switzerland, will host new ceasefire talks on August 14 to address the ongoing 15-month conflict between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions, with both sides accused of war crimes. RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has expressed support for the talks, aiming to achieve peace and a return to civilian rule, while the Sudanese army has not yet commented on the initiative. The negotiations will also involve observers from the United Nations, African Union, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates. The Biden administration's initiative follows months of behind-the-scenes efforts to end one of the world's deadliest conflicts.
