Qualcomm, Samsung, Google Develop Mixed-Reality Glasses

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon announced that the company, in collaboration with Samsung and Google, is developing mixed-reality smart glasses that will function as accessories to smartphones. Unlike Apple's Vision Pro, these glasses will superimpose data onto the real world rather than creating a fully enclosed virtual environment. Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip will power the glasses, and the partnership aims to make mixed-reality experiences more accessible and integrated with everyday devices. Amon emphasized that the goal is for these glasses to become as ubiquitous as regular eyewear, driven by generative AI to enhance functionality. He also cited the success of the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses as a positive indicator for this new venture.
