Rockies Set Modern MLB Record for Worst Start
The Colorado Rockies have set a modern MLB record for futility with an 8-42 start through 50 games, the worst since 1901 and only topped by the 1895 Louisville Colonels. Their .160 winning percentage projects to 136 losses, which would break the modern-era record of 121 losses set by the 2024 Chicago White Sox and the all-time record of 134 by the 1899 Cleveland Spiders. The Rockies lead the league in poor metrics, including the worst run differential (-159), highest ERA (5.92), and lowest offensive output. Manager Bud Black has been fired amid the collapse, but interim leadership has yet to improve results. Both analysts and fans blame deep organizational dysfunction for the team's plight. Despite a rare win against the Yankees, Colorado remains on pace for a historically poor season.
