Fire Destroys Cape Cod's Captain Scott’s Restaurant

Captain Scott’s Seafood Restaurant, a family-owned landmark in Sandwich, Massachusetts, was destroyed by a massive fire early Sunday morning. The fire began around 5:30 a.m. and rapidly spread from the basement to the first floor, worsened by a gas leak after the natural gas regulator burned off. Over 40 firefighters from multiple departments fought the blaze for several hours, ultimately extinguishing it with the help of an excavator, but the building was declared a total loss and torn down. No serious injuries were reported, though one firefighter was treated for exhaustion. The Gossios family, owners of the restaurant for over 50 years, have received pledges of support from local officials as they consider rebuilding. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
