Archaeolink Prehistory Park Listed for Sale
The Archaeolink Prehistory Park in Aberdeenshire, which opened in 1997 at a cost of £4 million, has been listed for sale again for just £150,000, representing less than 4% of its original value. Initially projected to attract 100,000 visitors annually, it only managed to draw 10,500 visitors in its final year before closing in 2011 due to insufficient funding and interest. Over its lifespan, the park received an additional £2.5 million in support from Aberdeenshire Council, which ultimately deemed it unviable. The site, located in Oyne, is being marketed as a 'unique development opportunity' with potential uses ranging from a restaurant to a gym. Despite being sold to a mystery buyer last year, the site has returned to the market as interest remains low. Local concerns about the financial viability of the park were raised even before its opening, leading to its characterization as a 'white elephant.'
