Evenepoel Injured in Training Crash Near Oetingen
Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel sustained fractures to his rib, right shoulder blade, and right hand after colliding with the door of a postal van during a training ride near Oetingen, Belgium. The accident occurred while he was training, and Evenepoel was initially hospitalized in Anderlecht before being transferred to Herentals for further assessment. Despite the serious nature of the incident, Evenepoel remained conscious throughout and was able to communicate with his family. His team manager, Patrick Lefevere, noted the severity of the crash, which broke Evenepoel's special edition bike in two. Immediate medical attention was provided, and a recovery plan will be established following further evaluations at Herentals. Evenepoel's achievements this year include winning both the men's road race and time trial at the Paris Olympics.
