India Hosts First ITU Telecom Conference

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the inaugural World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) and India Mobile Congress (IMC) on October 15, 2024, in New Delhi, marking a significant event for global telecommunications. The WTSA, held every four years, will shape the future of communication technologies through its recommendations. The IMC has grown substantially, with participation expected from over 120 countries, nearly doubling from last year, and featuring more than 400 exhibitors and 900 startups. Discussions will focus on key technologies such as 5G, 6G, and quantum technology, reinforcing IMC's status as Asia's largest tech expo. Doreen Bogdan-Martin of the ITU emphasized the importance of standards in fostering innovation and ensuring responsible AI development. Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted India's advancements in digital infrastructure and the need for accountable governance of emerging technologies.
