Denmark Invests $137 Million in Ukraine Defense
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced a significant investment of 130 million euros (approximately $137 million) in Ukraine's defense industry during her visit to Kyiv on November 19, coinciding with the 1,000th day of the conflict with Russia. This funding is aimed at bolstering Ukraine's military capabilities, particularly in the production of long-range drones and missiles. Frederiksen emphasized the need for European nations to increase their contributions to Ukraine's defense, stating, 'We can only have peace in Europe if we can defend ourselves.' This initiative marks Denmark as the first NATO country to directly fund Ukraine's arms production. The Danish premier also highlighted the importance of international collaboration and learning from Ukraine's adaptive industrial practices during the war. The announcement comes amidst rising tensions, including Russia's altered military posture regarding nuclear threats following U.S. approvals for Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles deeper in Russia.
