Mackenzie Scott's $19B Donations Boost Nonprofits

MacKenzie Scott has transformed over 2,000 nonprofit organizations by donating more than $19 billion in unrestricted grants since her divorce from Jeff Bezos in 2019. Her philanthropic approach, characterized by large, no-strings-attached gifts, has significantly strengthened financial sustainability for recipient organizations, allowing them to strategically plan for long-term impacts. The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) conducted a study revealing that nearly 90% of nonprofits reported enhanced financial stability, while many also experienced easier fundraising and attracted new contributions. Scott's donations have doubled or tripled the impact of several organizations, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which significantly boosted its operating budget. The median gift size is approximately $5 million, with nearly half focused on social justice efforts, underscoring Scott's commitment to impactful and strategic philanthropy.
