New Smyrna Beach School Nurse Arrested for Luring Student
Joshua Leggett, a 50-year-old school nurse at New Smyrna Beach High School, was arrested for allegedly traveling to meet a minor following an online solicitation. The arrest was prompted when the student's parents observed suspicious behavior and contacted the police after witnessing Leggett behaving inappropriately with their child at a restaurant. Leggett faces charges of traveling to meet a minor using a computer to lure a child and an offense against a student by an authority figure. He has been placed on leave and is currently held in the Volusia County jail without bond. The Volusia County School District is cooperating with law enforcement and has initiated an internal investigation, emphasizing the priority of student safety. Mental health resources will be made available at the school to support affected students.
