Chrome Ends Support for Android 8, 9 in August 2025
Google will end Chrome browser support for devices running Android 8.0 Oreo and Android 9.0 Pie with the release of Chrome 139, scheduled for August 5, 2025. Chrome 138 will be the last version available to users on these older operating systems, after which no new features or security updates will be provided. While Chrome will still function on Android 8 and 9, continued use poses increasing cybersecurity risks. Google recommends upgrading to a device with at least Android 10 to maintain secure and up-to-date browsing. Android 8 and 9 currently account for about 10% of active Android devices globally, making this change significant. Some alternative browsers, such as Firefox, may still support these older Android versions, but compatibility is not guaranteed.
