Delhi High Court Grants Extension for Wrestler's Case

The Delhi High Court has granted former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh a two-week extension to submit contentions for quashing a sexual harassment case lodged by several women wrestlers. The court scheduled the next hearing for September 26, with the victims' counsel arguing that the petition lacks merit, while Singh's defense claims political motivations behind the allegations. In a related matter, the court also granted the Centre four additional weeks to respond to a petition by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) contesting its suspension, which was imposed on December 24, 2023, for allegedly failing to adhere to its constitutional provisions. The petitioner's counsel criticized the Centre for not complying with previous court directives, emphasizing that the suspension was enacted without a show cause notice. Despite the delays, Justice Sanjeev Narula stated that an interim order could not be issued without completed pleadings, and the matter will return to court in October.
