Lorraine Kelly Climbs 25-Metre Mast on Historic RRS Discovery in Dundee

Lorraine Kelly and Dan Snow participated in a race to climb the 25-metre mast of the historic RSS Discovery in Dundee, a ship that voyaged to Antarctica 124 years ago. The climb aimed to recreate the challenging working conditions faced by the ship’s original crew, though modern safety measures were in place this time. Kelly described the experience as terrifying and said she was "shaking like a leaf," finding comfort in Snow’s calmness during the climb. After reaching the top, both presenters waved to cameras and abseiled back down safely. The event, led by the Dundee Heritage Trust, will be available for public participation in the autumn and is expected to attract global attention as the only experience of its kind in Scotland. Kelly also emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the Discovery ship's maintenance needs and Scotland’s historical ties to the whaling industry, which ended in 1963.
