Sebastian Stan Stars in Radu Jude’s Frankenstein Film

Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude is developing a unique new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein starring Sebastian Stan, known for his role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film will merge the gothic myth of Frankenstein with the reality of CIA black sites in Romania from around 20 years ago, offering a distinctive blend of horror, drama, and political themes. Stan initiated the collaboration by reaching out to Jude, who began scripting the project while concurrently working on his Dracula film, which is set in Transylvania and aims to reclaim the Dracula narrative from Hollywood’s dominance. Jude, acclaimed for his award-winning movies such as Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn and Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World, is recognized for his provocative, politically charged storytelling style, often shot with minimal budgets. The Frankenstein project is still in the scriptwriting phase with no release date announced, but anticipation is high given Jude’s growing international reputation and Stan’s star power.
