One Dead in I-880 Milpitas Crash; Lanes Cleared

A fatal crash occurred on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Milpitas early Friday morning, resulting in at least one death, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The incident began with a collision between two vehicles near Tasman Drive around 3:54 a.m., which led to additional crashes after one vehicle hit a tire on the roadway. The CHP confirmed the fatality at approximately 4:50 a.m., and initially, only one southbound lane remained open to traffic. Authorities had not provided an estimate for the reopening of the full freeway by 4:52 a.m. A Sig Alert was issued due to severe traffic, and all lanes were eventually cleared by 6:53 a.m.
