Swiss Couple Indicted for Human Trafficking

A Virginia man, Brendan Banfield, has been indicted for the double murder of his wife, Christine Banfield, and another man, Joseph Ryan, in a case involving a love triangle with their au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhaes. Banfield faces four counts of aggravated murder and is currently held without bond after police discovered his wife fatally stabbed and Ryan shot in their home in 2023. In a separate case in Switzerland, a couple has been accused of keeping two au pairs, aged 22 and 30, in a small cage for months, subjecting them to BDSM torture and forced labor under false promises of residence permits and career training. The Swiss man, 46, admitted to tying up one victim and punishing her for poor performance while rewarding good behavior with outings, all while she was confined for over 15 hours a day. Both incidents highlight severe abuses of power and manipulation in relationships involving au pairs.
