17-Year-Old Huang Sentenced for Attempted Murder

Thomas Wei Huang, a 17-year-old from Malaysia, has been identified after a judge lifted an order preventing the publication of his name. He was sentenced to life detention with a minimum of 12 years for his attempted murder of three individuals at Blundell's School in Tiverton. The attacks occurred on June 9, 2023, when Huang, armed with three claw hammers, assaulted two sleeping students, aged 15 and 16, and their housemaster, Henry Roffe-Silvester. Huang claimed he was sleepwalking during the assaults, but the jury found him guilty of three counts of attempted murder. Judge Mrs Justice Cutts emphasized the planning involved and the significant risk Huang poses to the public.
