USWNT Loses 2-1 to Japan in SheBelieves Cup Final

The U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) suffered its first loss under coach Emma Hayes, falling 2-1 to Japan in the SheBelieves Cup final, thus ending their unbeaten streak at 18 matches. Japan took an early lead with Yūka Momiki scoring just two minutes into the match before Ally Sentnor equalized for the U.S. in the 14th minute. However, Japan regained the advantage with Tōko Koga's goal in the 50th minute, sealing their first SheBelieves Cup title. Hayes made significant roster changes, prioritizing player development over immediate victory, which she believes will benefit the team long-term. Despite the disappointment, Hayes acknowledged Japan's superior performance and emphasized the importance of learning from top-class opponents. The U.S. had previously not lost to Japan in 14 encounters dating back to 2012.
