Ian Farquhar, King's Friend and Huntsman, Dies at 78

Ian Farquhar, a close friend of King Charles and former equerry to the Queen Mother, tragically died at the age of 78 after becoming trapped between his bed and a wall while intoxicated. Farquhar, who served in the Queen's Own Hussars and was a renowned huntsman, struggled with alcoholism, a condition exacerbated by his social activities related to hunting. Despite efforts to manage his drinking, his health deteriorated, leading to increased falls and the need for daily care. On March 6, 2024, he was found deceased at his home with a blood alcohol level 4.5 times over the legal driving limit. The inquest ruled his death as caused by postural asphyxia and alcohol toxicity, highlighting his struggle with alcohol in his final years.
