Nine PSNI Officers Injured in Derry, Strabane Assaults

Over a 48-hour period, nine police officers in Derry and Strabane were injured while on duty, enduring assaults that included being punched, kicked, and head-butted, as well as facing racial and sectarian abuse. Area Chief Inspector Luke Moyne noted that all injured officers remained on duty, highlighting their resilience amidst challenging circumstances. The incidents involved high levels of aggression, including one case where a woman charged at an officer with a knife. Officers were assaulted while responding to disturbances at house parties and a large fight, where they encountered aggressive crowds. Moyne described the attacks as 'shameful' and confirmed that investigations are ongoing. The PSNI emphasized the need for community support to prevent such violence against law enforcement.
