BP, Iberdrola Select Imefy for Spain's Largest Green Hydrogen Plant

BP and Iberdrola have contracted Toledo-based Imefy to supply the main transformer for Spain's largest green hydrogen plant, which will be located at the BP refinery in Castellón. The 25 MW facility is expected to become operational in the second half of 2026 and will feature a three-phase power transformer with a capacity of 37 MVA. This project, with an investment exceeding €70 million, aims to produce green hydrogen using renewable electricity, potentially reducing carbon emissions significantly by replacing natural gas in industries such as ceramics and chemical manufacturing. Imefy will oversee the manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning of the transformer, solidifying the commitment to domestic industrial innovation in the renewable energy sector. The initiative is part of a broader effort to decarbonize the energy landscape in Spain and enhance the renewable hydrogen value chain. A power purchase agreement with Iberdrola will ensure the plant is supplied with 200 GWh per year from renewable sources.
