Nokia Fibertime Expand Fiber Broadband To 400000 South African Homes
Nokia is partnering with South African internet provider fibertime to expand fiber broadband access to an additional 400,000 homes in underserved communities as part of fibertime's goal to connect 2 million homes by 2028. This expansion uses Nokia's advanced technologies, including Lightspan access nodes, Wi-Fi 6-enabled fiber access points, ONT Easy Start for automated modem activation, and the 7750 Wireless Access Gateway to provide a seamless single SSID network that allows users to stay connected throughout their township. Fibertime's flagship product offers unlimited, unthrottled fiber-to-the-home internet for just 5 South African Rand per day without contracts, with voucher-based access allowing flexibility and affordability for low-income customers. The initiative aims to deliver high-speed internet, with speeds up to 950 Mbps, to previously unconnected areas, facilitating education, healthcare, and economic growth. Nokia's support enables fibertime to connect approximately 1,200 households daily, significantly accelerating broadband rollout in key South African cities and townships. This partnership reflects Nokia's commitment to bridging the digital divide in underserved regions, despite some financial challenges reflected in its broader business metrics.
