David Weatherley, Kiwi Actor, Dies at 85

David Weatherley, the beloved Kiwi actor known for his role as Barliman Butterbur in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,' has passed away at the age of 85 after a long illness. Born in London in 1939, Weatherley served in the Canadian military before moving to New Zealand in the 1960s, where he became a prominent figure in theatre and television. His extensive career spanned nearly fifty years, featuring roles in productions such as 'Xena: Warrior Princess,' 'Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive,' and the 2004 video game 'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II.' He was also recognized with a Scroll of Honour from the Variety Artists Club of New Zealand in 2016. Weatherley is survived by his ex-wife Anita and their two children. A celebration of his life is scheduled for December 19, 2024.
