Egypt Trains 10,000 Palestinian Security Forces for Postwar Gaza Role

Egypt is actively involved in efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and stabilize Gaza through diplomatic mediation and security initiatives. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty highlighted ongoing coordination with Qatar and the United States to push for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, while condemning Israeli military actions. Concurrently, Egypt has begun training up to 10,000 Palestinian Authority (PA) security personnel, mostly from the West Bank and the Fatah faction, to take over internal policing in Gaza post-conflict, aiming to replace Hamas control. This initiative, coordinated with Jordan and supported by the international community, is part of a broader Arab plan for Gaza's stabilization and reconstruction, including plans for a technocratic Palestinian governance panel during the transition. However, the plan faces opposition from Israel, which rejects PA governance of Gaza and favors local groups under Gulf state oversight, reflecting deep regional disagreements. Arab countries, including Egypt and Qatar, also share common concerns on broader regional issues such as Syrian and Lebanese sovereignty and the Iranian nuclear issue, underscoring their coordinated political stance.
