Porsche Plans Wireless EV Charging Launch Europe 2026

Porsche is set to revolutionize electric vehicle charging with the introduction of an 11 kW inductive wireless charging system debuting on the all-electric 2026 Cayenne. The system allows drivers to charge their vehicles simply by parking over a floor-mounted base plate, eliminating the need for cables and providing a charging experience similar to wireless smartphone charging. This charging plate, which is weatherproof, air-cooled, and includes safety features like motion detection and foreign object recognition, will be available for purchase in Europe starting in 2026, with plans to expand globally. The Cayenne EV automatically lowers itself to optimize charging efficiency of up to 90%, guided by an onboard surround-view camera and controlled via the My Porsche app. Porsche's wireless system is designed to match the performance of wired AC charging and supports multiple vehicles, also allowing high-speed DC charging for fast top-ups on the go. This innovation marks a significant step forward in convenience and user experience for EV owners, with Porsche planning to add inductive charging to other models in the future.
