Micky Lee Wagner, a 57-year-old man with a history of fraud, has been sentenced to nearly eight years in federal prison for defrauding factoring companies of over $5 million through a fake staffing company named Right Step Staffing. He created fraudulent invoices and contracts, falsely claiming to have provided temporary workers to major businesses, including Kroger Distribution and Duracell, while using stolen identities. Wagner's fraudulent activities included the purchase of luxury goods, real estate, and even funding plastic surgery and cruises with the illegally obtained funds. After being indicted in 2022, he fled but continued to engage in further fraudulent schemes, stealing additional funds from other companies. U.S. District Judge J. P. Boulee sentenced him to seven years and 10 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered him to pay over $3 million in restitution. U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan and FBI officials highlighted the significant harm caused by Wagner’s actions to both businesses and individual identity theft victims.
