The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has abandoned its controversial plan to reroute mail processing from Reno to Sacramento after significant public outcry and bipartisan opposition from Nevada's officials. The USPS announced that outgoing single-piece mail will continue to be processed in Reno, ensuring timely delivery for local residents, particularly concerning mail-in ballots. This decision also means no anticipated job losses for employees at the Reno facility, which is set to undergo improvements backed by a $13.4 million investment. Senator Jacky Rosen and other lawmakers have praised the reversal, highlighting its importance for seniors and veterans who rely on prompt mail service. The USPS will now seek regulatory approval for its revised plan, which includes transforming the Vassar Street post office into a local processing center. The original plan had raised fears of delays in mail delivery and significant impacts on election processes in Nevada.
