Instacart Launches SNAP Eligibility Tool

Instacart has launched a new SNAP eligibility screener tool, allowing users to anonymously check their eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits in under 60 seconds. This initiative, powered by Advocatia, marks a significant step as it is the first such tool offered by an online grocery platform, aimed at helping millions facing food insecurity in the U.S. Instacart's chief corporate affairs officer, Dani Dudeck, emphasized the company's commitment to breaking down barriers to access nutritious food, especially as food insecurity affects over 12% of American households. The tool also connects users with relevant state resources to streamline enrollment in SNAP. In 2023, Instacart expanded its SNAP acceptance nationwide, allowing more than 30,000 stores to accept SNAP benefits online. The launch comes amid a backdrop of scrutiny and potential cuts to the SNAP program, underscoring the importance of accessibility in food resources.
