Braves' Olson Hits 15 Homers, Eliminated First Round Home Run Derby
Matt Olson, representing the Atlanta Braves, was eliminated in the first round of the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby despite hitting 15 home runs, falling just short of the 18 needed to advance. Olson had a slow start but energized the hometown crowd at Truist Park, hitting some powerful shots including a 460-foot home run, his longest of the night. He replaced teammate Ronald Acuna Jr., who withdrew due to back tightness, and received a warm reception as a metro Atlanta native and Parkview High alum. Although Olson did not advance, the event was a special moment for him and Braves fans, continuing the team's streak without a Home Run Derby winner. In recent regular-season play, Olson has shown improvement, driving in three runs in a loss to the Cardinals, raising his season totals to 61 RBIs and maintaining a .262 batting average with 40 extra-base hits. Despite some recent slumps, Olson remains a key bright spot for the Braves amid a challenging season.
