The Wedding Banquet Remake Premieres at BFI Flare Festival

Director Andrew Ahn's reimagining of Ang Lee's 1993 film 'The Wedding Banquet' premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim and will open the BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival. The film, featuring Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, and Kelly Marie Tran, explores themes of family expectations and cultural identity through a comedic narrative involving a visa marriage in exchange for IVF funding, complicated by an unexpected visit from a traditional grandmother. Co-written by Ahn and James Schamus, the film has been praised for its joyful portrayal of chosen family dynamics. The international premiere will take place in London on March 19, 2025. Andrew Ahn, who has emerged as a prominent voice in queer Asian-American cinema, previously directed successful projects like 'Spa Night' and 'Fire Island'.
