The New Zealand Commerce Commission (NZCC) plans to take Jetstar, a subsidiary of Qantas, to court for allegedly misleading consumers regarding their rights to compensation for delayed and canceled flights. The regulator claims that Jetstar discouraged customers from seeking compensation and may have denied claims for delays that were within the airline's control. The NZCC believes that misleading statements were made by Jetstar in 2022 and 2023, violating the Fair Trading Act. Under the Civil Aviation Act, airlines are required to reimburse passengers for reasonable costs due to delays or cancellations they control. This legal action follows similar complaints from consumers in Australia against Jetstar. The airline has yet to respond to these allegations.
