The Mysuru royal family has successfully obtained a stay from the Karnataka High Court against the state government's establishment of the Sri Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority, claiming that the Chamundeshwari Temple and surrounding properties are their private assets. Yeduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar emphasized the need to respect traditions that have been upheld for generations. In response, Karnataka Minister for Cooperation, KN Rajanna, dismissed the royal family's claims, highlighting ongoing disputes over royal properties in various courts. Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, the family's matriarch, criticized the government's move as unconstitutional and referenced historical documents affirming the family's ownership. The legislation creating the authority, enacted just three months earlier, aimed to manage properties including the temple by the state government. The family's legal battles date back to a writ petition filed in 2001 regarding ownership of Chamundi Hills.
