Mississippi Gaming Commission Approves Two East Biloxi Casino Sites

The Mississippi Gaming Commission has granted site approval to Biloxi Capital, LLC for a long-delayed casino project at the former Tivoli Hotel location in east Biloxi, marking a significant step forward after nearly two decades of setbacks. The project, which includes plans for a 1,300-room hotel, 100,000 square feet of casino space, and convention facilities, requires the developers to prove financial backing before construction can begin. This approval follows a legal dispute involving the Secretary of State over the leasing authority of waterfront land, which was resolved in favor of the City of Biloxi and Harrison County, allowing the project to proceed. Alongside Biloxi Capital's approval, the Tullis Gardens casino, located nearby, also received site approval, although it faces ongoing litigation over tidelands issues that could delay its development for several years. The Tullis Gardens project proposes a smaller resort with a 300-room hotel and a 53,280 square foot casino floor, while both projects represent major investments in the Biloxi gaming and tourism market. City and county officials, as well as casino developers, emphasize the need for cooperation to advance the region's economic development amid these legal and regulatory challenges.
