Wednesday Storm Could Disrupt New England Commute
A fast-moving rain system is expected to disrupt Wednesday’s morning commute across New England, with heaviest downpours focused over Worcester, Boston and parts of the South Coast and Cape Cod and most steady rain moving east and clearing by mid- to late-morning. Rain totals will be modest in many spots (about 0.25–0.75 inches), though recent Monday storms produced 1–2 inches in places and higher mountain totals remain possible. Breezy to gusty winds—gusts up to 40–50 mph in some southern areas—could reduce visibility in wind‑whipped rain, slow commutes, cause large puddles and localized flooding, and raise the risk of scattered power outages and coastal splashover where advisories are in effect. Temperatures stay mild Wednesday (low‑ to mid‑60s) before a cooling trend brings Thursday–Friday highs into the upper 50s–low 60s and weekend highs mainly in the 50s with overnight lows dipping into the 20s–30s. Forecasters say the second half of the week trends drier but are watching an upper‑level pattern that could help spawn a stronger storm before Halloween while Tropical Storm Melissa remains south of the Caribbean.
