Ivanhoe Mines Secures Major Copper Exploration Licence in Zambia

Ivanhoe Mines has filed a National Instrument 43-101 technical report detailing the Platreef Integrated Development Plan 2025, which encompasses a three-phase expansion of its platinum, palladium, rhodium, nickel, gold, and copper mine in South Africa. The report includes an updated feasibility study for an expansion to 4.1 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) and a preliminary economic assessment for a further increase to 10.7 Mtpa. The project, recognized as one of the largest undeveloped precious metals sites, is projected to yield significant financial returns with an after-tax net present value of $3.2 billion at full capacity. Production is expected to begin in Q4 2025, with an accelerated Phase 2 expansion slated for 2027. Ivanhoe's strategic developments in both Zambia and South Africa highlight its commitment to enhancing copper and precious metals production, potentially leading to substantial job creation and economic growth in the regions.
