French Open Draw Sets Potential Raducanu-Swiatek Second-Round Clash
Britain's Emma Raducanu could face three-time defending French Open champion Iga Swiatek in the second round if both win their opening matches, with Raducanu set to play China's Wang Xinyu first and Swiatek facing Rebecca Šramková. Raducanu, who has struggled with injuries including recent back issues, was heavily defeated by Swiatek in their last meeting at the Australian Open, and Swiatek, despite her dominant past performances on clay, enters the tournament in uncertain form having not won a title this year and dropping to fifth in the rankings. On the men's side, British number one Jack Draper is drawn to play Italy's Mattia Bellucci, potentially meeting world number one Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals, while Cameron Norrie faces a tough first-round match against Daniil Medvedev and Jacob Fearnley will debut against former champion Stan Wawrinka. Defending men's champion Carlos Alcaraz opens against Kei Nishikori, and Novak Djokovic aims for a record 25th Grand Slam with a first-round match against Mackenzie McDonald. The draw was conducted at Roland Garros with participation from Paris Saint-Germain footballer Ousmane Dembélé. Other British women, including Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, and Jodie Burrage, also have challenging draws in the tournament.
