Plenty Road in Bundoora has been identified as Australia's biggest crash hotspot over the past decade, according to AAMI's Decade of Driving report for 2014-2023. The report highlights that major roads across states share similar characteristics, often located near industrial and shopping areas, contributing to their high accident rates. In NSW, the Hume Highway in Liverpool and the Bruce Highway in Queensland also topped the lists for most dangerous roads. AAMI's analysis revealed that afternoons are the peak time for accidents, coinciding with school pick-up hours, while Fridays see the highest number of collisions. Common accident types include nose-to-tail crashes and failure to give way, with men involved in over half of the incidents. Despite advances in vehicle technology, driver behavior has shown little improvement, indicating a need for increased vigilance on the roads.
