75 College Football Players From 51 Schools Named 2025 Comeback Award Candidates
The 2025 Comeback Player of the Year Award Watch List, released by College Sports Communicators in association with The Associated Press and Fiesta Sports Foundation, features 75 college football players from 51 schools who have overcome injuries or other setbacks. Notable Group of Five candidates include Navy safety Seth English, North Texas lineman Gabe Blair, and South Florida quarterback Byrum Brown, all aiming to rebound after missed playing time due to injury or illness. Kentucky defensive linemen Tavion Gadson and Josaih Hayes are also on the watch list, returning from significant injuries including knee surgery and a torn Achilles tendon. UCF’s quarterback Cam Fancher and defensive tackle John Walker, who both missed substantial time due to injuries in 2024, are expected to be key contributors in 2025 and are included on the list as well. The award, recognizing resilience in college football, will honor three winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl at the end of the season based on votes from college football writers and sports information directors. Alongside the comeback candidates, rising stars like Duke’s quarterback Darien Mensa and Kansas State’s defensive back Justice Clemons are generating local buzz as key players to watch for the upcoming season.
